The Nordic Countries in the Cold War had militaries mainly made up by conscription, but you would be wrong to underestimate these Nations. The professional forces they had, utilised some of the most modern equipment, and they had the advantage of knowing their terrain, a small well-armed force could dull the Russian Advance long enough for NATO forces to stabilise and counterattack. Furthermore, they had some of the most Elite infantry in the world, and could travel swiftly thanks to their Skis, allowing them to take the fight to the enemy as well.
